Kidney conditionPosted By QuestionGuy on December 20, 2001 at 23:53:20:
I have taken a blood test last week. My doctor told me the results are good. My Creatinine is 0.9. He said this is considered to be very low (range is 0.8 - 1.5) and a very good sign. So he concluded that my kidney is doing very well. I was relieved.
But yesterday I found out there is something called Creatinine Clearance Calculator, which is used to measure kidney performance, on the web. In addition to the Creatinine level, the formula also takes into consideration the height, weight and age of the person. After plugging in all the figures, it turned out that my index is well below average. I scored a 79 while the average of male is 125. I found out the fact that I am a very tiny person (short and light in weight) caused the low score. Today, I consulted with another doctor. I told him about the Creatinine Clearance Calculator and that my score is well below average. I also showed him my blood test report. But he said I should not even bother with the Creatinine Clearance Calculator. The fact that my Creatinine is only 0.9 is enough to prove my kidney is working very well. He said the Creatinine Clearance Calculator is only for people who are having kidney disease. Well I am kinda confused now. Anyone gives me some advice?
