Thanks, Heather. I've tried all of those suggestions, and I wish I could narrow it down to just two. It's not a matter of absolutes; several sound a bit like me, but nothing feels quite right.

Again, it sounds like a wonderful concept, but I'm getting frustrated and I'm wearing out my book!
